Get More Rods On The River

‘a great  opportunity for some free fishing on the River Wye in Wales & Herefordshire’

Since 2012 WSA have run a campaign to  ‘Get More Rods on the River’. This offered salmon anglers, with the kind permission of a number of riparian owners, the opportunity to reacquaint themselves with the river by offering various days and beats free of charge. Understandably this has been a huge success and  we now have over 300 days fishing available to our members & supporters on the river Wye.

This fishing is available on a first come first served basis, must be pre-booked at least 2 days before the day and is not transferable!  You can benefit from this scheme by joining WSA online at WSA Subscriptions at an annual cost of £10, or by sending a cheque to Wye Salmon Association, Penyhil, Felindre, Brecon, Powys LD3 0SU.

Usual beat controls will be placed on anglers using the scheme including issuing of beat maps and conditions applying and the provision of directions, parking and advice on tackle and baits if required. Many of these beats offer double rods and WSA are also able occasionally to offer gillies or guides to anglers if required.

If you wish to take up the offer and help fill the river with salmon anglers once again contact WSA by phone 07789133263 or by email at We will send you a link to our online booking diary and discuss availability.

‘I’ve been over to the Wye three times this year on your free rods , having enjoyed fishing in middle river but despite catching a variety of species including pike, chub and trout, I’ve yet to contact any salmon though I’m pleased to report that we’ve seen fish showing on every occasion so far’

‘landed a 11.5lbs salmon after just 10 mins fishing, good old Usk grub. My pal joined in with two fish of 9 & 14lb. Would definitely like to go back again soon’

‘no fish but river superb for the fly and what surroundings…………will be back if available’

We're not around right now. But you can send us an email and we'll get back to you, asap.
